Because depression has affected so many Americans, researchers have developed a steady stream of anti-depressants over the course of the years. At this time, Zoloft is the brand of anti-depressant medication that is prescribed most often. Zoloft has been around for over fourteen years and has been used to treat million of Americans for depression.
Zoloft can be used to treat regular depression and postpartum depression as well as a variety of other conditions including panic disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and social anxiety disorder.
Zoloft should be introduced to the body gradually. Your body may not adjust easily to your new medication. Usually physicians will give patients a sample pack of Zoloft to start off with. The sample pack contains a seven day supply of 25mg. pills, the lowest available dose; once the patient has finished those pills, they are advised to continue with the 50mg. for the next three weeks. The dosage can be adjusted as necessary.
When you initially begin taking your medication, you may experience diarrhea, nausea, fatigue or dizziness. These symptoms are to be expected and should go away within several weeks.
